Qualified Safety Representative Designation (QSR)

The training consists of nine mandatory modules (88 hours) and one of three elective modules (4 – 8 hours). The participants will complete an exam at end of each training module then write an overall comprehensive exam (must achieve 70% on exam) to attain the Qualified Safety Representative designation.
Please note that students with a QSR and applying for the Occupational Health and Safety Certificate program at the University of Alberta can apply for an exemption credit and receive 21 hours (towards the 35 hrs) of the “Enrichment Seminars” requirement of the certificate program.

The compulsory modules are: 

1. Health and Safety Program Development – 16 hours
2. Understanding the Legislation – 4 hours
3. Health and Safety Committees – 4 hours
4. Workplace Inspections – 4 hours Supervisor – 8 hrs
5. Hazard Assessments and Methods of Control – 4 hours
6. Accident/Incident Investigation – 8 hours
7. Claims Management and Effective Return to Work – 8 hours
8. Workplace Violence – 8 hours
12. H & S Auditor Training and Certification – 32 hours

The elective modules are: 

9. Road Safety & Emergency Response – 8 hrs
10. Managing Contractors in the Workplace – 8 hrs
11. Being a Leader, Roles of an Effective
